1969 Mercury Colony Park 8-8-11
The 1969 full-size Mercury brochure said it all.

Mercury Marquis Colony Park: If Lincoln Continental made a station wagon, this would be it.

This 125,524-mile 1969 Mercury Colony Park station wagon can be yours for $5,500 or best offer. And for the $5,500 price, I will install a new set of tires (three are currently flat from the car sitting in storage, I will replace all four and will take the current good tire and turn it into a spare). If you want the car in as-is condition, the price is... $5,200 or best offer.

The car is equipped with the 2-barrel version of the 429 V-8 (same basic motor as the legendary Cobra Jet) and the typical three-speed automatic transmission. The green leather-like vinyl interior features Ford's unique dual rear-facing seats and is in great overall condition given that the car is now 43 years old. It is fully equipped including power windows and 6-way power seats.

The car runs and even the motorized headlights still work as seen from the photos. The car is virtually rust-free and has spent the last four years in California after I drove it from Arkansas to New Jersey, then on to Florida, for a road trip feature for the UK publication, Classic American. From Florida, I had it shipped to California, where it has basically sat as I have been unable to work on the car due to other obligations. I did replace one of the exhaust manifolds when I got the car back to California at a cost of $1,100 (the repair shop broke off a stud and charged me to fix their screw-up).

You can view the Classic American feature on the car by clicking on the first image in the album, then opening up the PDF.

The paint and vinyl "DiNoc" wood will need to be replaced. As the body is straight, with just a minimum of rust repair needed, a $1,000 Maaco paint job and $500 for the replacement DiNoc, and you'll have a car that will be the hit and turn heads at your local cruise night (which was my intent); certainly you'll be the only one with such a rare car.

Many experts feel that full-size American station wagons are poised to be hot in collector car circles given that they resonate so well with baby boomers and are still affordable. As they share their mechanical parts and many body panels with similar sedans and hardtops, they remain easy to restore.
