The owner is very co-operative with having me shoot the car and we've already discussed shooting it at a Bavarian-style shopping mall in Huntington Beach for a real in-Germany feel for the final portfolio. Camaro Edited Ads (October 29, 2008)Head: The Camaro in Print Subhead: 35 Years of Camaro Ads By Richard Truesdell
With the 2010 Camaro now arriving in showrooms, this presents a perfect opportunity to look back at the way the first four generations of Camaros, from the very first classic 1967 models, all the way to the bitter end in 2002. While it took almost eight years for the Camaro to make a return engagement, as they say, better late than never.
Over it’s first 35 years there were over 100 national print ads in which the Camaro appeared. These ranged from truly memorable ads, such as the very first teaser ads that were as classic as the cars they depicted, to some that showed that the Camaro was just marking time. Over the years the Camaro adapted to the changes in the marketplace and the ads that Chevrolet and its agency of record, Campbell-Ewald, served well to document the changes and give us a window into a fascinating era in the history of the blue Bowtie. |

Article Anthology (September 30, 2008)Yes, I know it's a big file, but here it is, in one 40MB package, a representative anthology of feature articles I've produced for my client publications.
I love cars; I love shooting them, I love doing the research on them, and I love writing about them.
As you can see my portfolio ranges from classics from the fifties, up through the muscle car era, all the way to congtemporary tuner cars.

1967 GM Beaumont SD 396 It's not a Chevy Chevelle, it's not a Pontiac LeMans, it's a Beaumont, sold as a separate brand by GM's Canadian Pontiac dealers due to the restrictions in importing US-built cars into Canada. It was a separate brand from 1964 to 1969. For more information at:

196X Lancia Flaminia Sport 3C Zagato This is Mike Blum's recently purchased Lancia Flaminia Sport 3C Zagato photographed Saturday, June 21 at Cars and Coffee in Irvine. I spoke with Mike briefly about the car and while I'm not sure exactly what year it was manufactured, it was one of less than 200 similar coachbuilt cars produced by Zagato.
Mike imported the car from its previous Swiss owner who stored it for the past 20 years. Mike, who is a noted Alfa and Lancia collector, drove his prize to Cars and Coffee and as can be seen, cuts a striking image in both the static as well as the dynamic shots.
These are just preliminary images for editorial evaluation. Mike and I are scouting suitable locations for a formal photo shoot in more flattering early morning or late afternoon light. |

Downtown Disney Muscle Cars Pretty damn spectacular show yesterday at Downtown Disney, possible event coverage for Musclecar Enthusiast, Mopar Enthusiast, Mustang Enthusiast, and Pontiac Enthusiast as well as multiple feature car possibilities for all Amos titles.
I've made some notes where appropriate; guys, let me know if I can produce news/event coverage as well as any cars you might be interested in for features.
Some of the shields are incorrect...the Disney event manager says he will get me the graphics files for the shields by Thursday. Might make a cool graphic touch for any possible event coverage or news items as well as for possible features.
I'll be in touch but don't hesitate to contact me first.

1961 Triumph TR3 Italia by Vignale (June 1, 2008)In my opinion, the real gem that I found at this year's Los Angeles Concours d'Elegance -- besides last year's winning Pegaso Z102 and the Sunbeam Lister Tiger -- was Lisa Milne's 1959 Triumph TR3-based Italia 2000. One of 329 reportedly built by Vignale for under contract to Ruffino S.p.A. Industria Construzione Automobile of Naples. It was designed by Giovanni Michelotti and was designed to appeal to those that wanted the robust dependability of a Triumph, clothed in a more contemporary body. Most were apparently sold in the US through Stutz Plaisted Imports of Salem, Massachusetts. With a price of $5,000, more than $1,000 more than a standard TR3, it didn't meet the hoped for level of sales success. Production ran from mid-1959 to mid-1962 although some cars remained unsold all the way into 1965 according to some Triumph enthusiasts.
The car has been in the Milne family since 1971 when it was Lisa's mother's daily driver after being purchased for a reported $2,000 (based on my interview with Lisa). She remembers that as a child of riding sideways in the rear seating area, but hasn't yet subjected her own kids the the cramped rear seating quarters. (The photo of the two women standing near the car is Lisa and its previous owner, her Mom.)
Lisa, who lives in nearby Sierra Madre, near Pasadena, said this was the car's first show appearance and it won her very competitive class of Trinumphs at this year's Concours and received by many more West Coast show invitations based on its first-place finish in Los Angeles.
After speaking with Lisa, I will be making arrangements to shoot this wonderful car shortly and I am already scouting out suitable locations in the Pasadena area north of Los Angeles, that will showcase the car. Thankfully Pasadena is the home of many notable mid-century architectural gems, many of them period correct for the car's production era, while others, such as the house that was used in Steve Martin's Father of the Bride series, are located in the Pasadena area.
Please note that these are just preliminary shots taken at the LA Concours d'Elegance; shots taken of the car for potential magazine placements will be of much higher quality and composition. Lisa said that she has many family photos of the car, spanning the last 37 years, and that she will be providing them to me shortly while I try to secure one of the rare Italia brochures that occasionally appear on eBay. |

2008 Los Angeles Concours d'Elegance (June 1, 2008)A selected of images from the 2008 Ls Angeles Concours d'Elegance. Due to the large number of images taken these are unprocessed JPGs direct from the camera, rather than conversions from the RAW files I took. RAW files or conversions from specific RAW files can be provided upon editor's request.
While there were many spectacular pre-war cars in attendance, and I tried my best to capture a strong cross section of the pre-war cars, I tend to be drawn to the post-war cars, especially the station wagons and muscle cars. I also capured many of the class winners as they received their trophies.
I will be contacting the organizers to get a complete list of entrants and class winners along with all of the overall winners and special class citations.
This is the third year of this event and benefits the Assistance League of Southern California which provides assistance to needy school children in the greater Los Angeles area. More information can be at www.assistanceleague.net and www.laconcours.com/. |

1969 AMC Javelin (June 1, 2008)| In an era of $4.00/gallon gas, we might start to look more favorably on 6-cylinder, base model cars than we have in the past. Here's such a car, a 1969 AMC Javelin, with less than 50,000 miles and the original GoodYear spare in the trunk. |

1984 IRM Pontiac Fiero (December 27, 2006)Here's the text from the eBay ad:
Vehicle Description
Attention collectors, this Fiero was the first fastback body produced by International Research Motorsports of Gaithersburg, MD. and was displayed at SEMA and many Fiero Club and POCI events in the mid 1980’s. This car sat in a warehouse from 1990’s until late 2005 and has 20,600 original miles on it. I was told by the owner of IRM that it was a turbo project done in conjunction with Pontiac Motor Sports however they never could calibrate the computer to make it work before the project was canceled, we have removed the turbo, it will come with the car. We replaced the fluids and fuel and exhaust systems in the car and it started right up and runs excellent though it is burning a little rich (advanced timing for the turbo???). The transmission shifts smooth. The A/C needs to be charged. The car has the custom IRM suspension system and sits lower to the ground than a stock Fiero this car really hugs the road. The exterior paint shines bright however there are chips in the paint, from 5’ it is excellent. The t-tops work though the driver’s side lock is broken. The interior is excellent with the exception of the headliner there is some small bubbling easily fixed with 3M spray adhesive. The seats are excellent with no tears and speakers are in the headrest and sound excellent. The carpet is like new as well as the dashboard. This car has 2.5L 4 cylinders, automatic transmission, tilt steering, power mirrors, power windows, power locks, T-Tops C/D player and the list goes on. In addition to the car we are including the original turbo, turbo install manual, body install manual, shock adjusting tool, Tee-top manual and all four slotted and drilled rotors (the original rotors are perfect). This car is sold as is where is. Buyer responsible for pick-up or shipping cost, we will work with shipper. The car is located in New Market MD 21774. Car must be picked up within 14 days of auction. Payment within 5 days of auction Certified check or cash. The title will be released after funds are in the bank. This is a very nice Fiero with a lot of history. Sorry for the old pictures could not down load the new ones, the car is in the same condition it has remained in the garage driven only to inspections. |

PDF Files (May 2006)This is a collection of PDFs is a small cross section of the content that I've had published around the world over the last five years.
In this album you will see how editors in different countries (US, UK, Germany, The Netherlands, France, Italy, Romania and Australia) take the images I supply them along with English language text materials, and craft them into layouts suitable for their own markets. Where available, I've included companion stories side-by-side for your review.
There is a method to my madness in naming each file -- the first letters designate the country the article was published in, the next is a description of the material followed by the name of the publication it ran in.
If you are an editor who has found this site and would like to inquire about licensing content, please contact me at autotronic@aol.com. Thank you,

2005 Redline Mustang (August 5, 2006)Every now and then I get lucky and get a really special vehicle photographed first, before any other photographers or magazines, in this case a 2005 Mustang tricked out with an updated Eleanor look with an extra special hook. In this case the hook is a prominent movie tie-in, for the upcoming car flick Redline, due in theaters sometime later this fall. While this Mustang is not the primary star of the movie, it gets a lot of screen time.
Check out the trailers for Redline at:
http://www.redlinethemovie.com/trailers.aspx
This will also be the source for the most up-to-date release information. There are already interviews (clip two) with Stunt Coordinator Johnny Martin (Gone In Sixty Seconds, The Italian Job) which explain that they will be flipping a $400,000 Porsche Carrera GT over a $1,200,000 Ferrari Enzo (and destroying a number of Fiero-based kit cars along the way).
The Mustang is pretty damn cool in its own right, with owner Earl Morehead having installed the first aftermarket Saleen supercharger and having contributed to the installation documentation. And Earl was generous enough to shred a set of rear tires with repeated burnouts under the Interstate 5 flyover in San Fernando, California.
For ICE fans and publications the car is equipped with a stealth Eclipse/Audison/JL Audio system and a Ronaele (Eleanor spelled backwards) body kit combined with a Roush rear fascia that together works in perfect harmony.
Text will be available shortly and with the film opening later this fall, the timing for this feature couldn’t be more perfect. Check out the images here as well as the Redline web site, and let me know your intentions as quickly as possible.

Crystal Cove July 2006 (July 30, 2006)Every Saturday morning, well before sunrise, Southern California’s car cognoscenti descend on the stucco-encrusted Crystal Cove Promenade strip mall overlooking the Pacific Ocean on the famed Pacific Coast Highway just south of the Corona del Mar section of Newport Beach, home to some of the world’s most expensive real estate. They vie for 200 or so select parking spots in what has become the “in” place each week; classic hot rods, muscle cars, vintage cars of every stripe, exotics of every color and even an expanding selection of top-tier tuner cars all race for the most prime real estate. By 6 AM, all the choice spots are taken and the overflow is relegated to the outlying parking lots where dozens of Porsches, Ferraris and Lamborghinis park among the spectator Mercedes, Audis, BMWs and Lexuses, all as common in this part of the world as Accords, Camrays and 300Cs are almost anywhere else.

1967 ISO Rivolta (July 30, 2006)Owned by Eric Sands, this is a 1967 ISO Rivolta Coupe GT, which after buying it a year ago in the Pacific Northwest, proceeded to drive it 1000+ miles back to Southern California. These photos are preliminary photos taken at the weekly Crystal Cove (Newport Beach, CA) car show, an informal gathering of Southern California's best hot rods, muscle cars, vintage cars, exotics and tuner cars. At a second preliminary shoot, I shot the car at the St. Regis Hotel in Dana Point but again, these shots are just preliminary.
I have spoken with Eric and he's very agreeable to having the car shot for publication; if you find this car interesting and are interested in a feature, please contact me at autotronic@aol.com.

1964 Avanti (July 28, 2006)Preliminary images of Chuck Schauwecker's 1964 Studebaker Avanti. It is one of the 809 very rare 1964 Avantis manufactured before Studebaker shut down production in South Bend in December 1963. It is supercharged and since Studebaker didn't offer factory A/C with the supercharged cars, the first owner, who lived in Bakersfield, CA, had the delivering dealer install all the OEM components at the time it was delivered in 1964.
These shots were taken quickly at a show and are to be considered as a sample; I spoke with the owner and he seems quite willing to make arrangements to have me shoot the car, either in a studio or at an appropriate location, such as Palm Springs with its mid-ventury and Raymond Lowey connections. 1965 Buick Skylark GS (April 23,2006)Eric Paulsen's 1965 Buick Skylark GS, driven from the San Francisco Bay Area to the annual Orange, CA Car Show.
It is equipped with the rare dealer-installed Super Wildcat dual 4-bbl setup in addition to being fully equipped including 4-speed, A/C and power windows.
The car was shot in Orange, CA in a subdivision tract of Eichler homes. Joseph Eichler was a visionary post-war developer who built about 10,000 modern post and beam homes in Northern (10,000) and Southern California (900) that were affordable for middle class homebuyers (the homes sold for less than $30,000 in the sixties and those in this tract regularly sell for more than $750,000).
I thought that it would be fun to shoot Eric's car in a well preserved sixties setting. Image two was a fun shot, my 1969 Rambler 440 station wagon with Eric's Skylark GS. I was trying to give the shot a typical American sixties suburb look, Dad's convertible, Mom's station wagon.
For more information on Eichler and his homes, visit:

The driveway shots were taken at a recently sold (for $775,000) Eichler in the Fairmeadows subdivision in Orange at 728 E. Glendale Ave. A web page from the broker who listed the house can be viewed at:
