2007 Rat Terrier Rescue Quilt Project
7. 2007 Rat Terrier Rescue Quilt Project  (July 12, 2007)
The 2007 Rat Terrier Rescue Quilt Project is finished at last! Elen Morell, our wonderful quilter, assembled and quilted yet another gorgeous offering for us this year and it was stunning, as always. Thank you so much, Elen, for your dedication and hard work. Without you we likely would not have had a quilt this year! Thank you!

One surprise was that there were enough blocks to make a second lovely lap quilt or wall-hanging! Together the two quilts raised....$3,020!

The money was split equally between Rat Terrier ResQ and Ratbone Rescues, both national 501c3 non-profit organizations who save the lives of Rat Terriers in kill shelters and other dire situations. The work they do is OUTSTANDING!

Their websites are www.ratterrierresq.com and www.ratbonerescues.com. Check them out...you might just find your new best friend!

All of the quilt blocks received for this year's Rat Terrier Rescue Quilt Project are shown below. These blocks came from far and wide to be assembled into a quilt that was "given away" in a drawing in December 2007.

Thanks to everyone who made a block (or a few!) and an especially heartfelt thank you to our wonderful quilter, Elen Morell!

Wonderful job, everyone! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Lori Ann's Visit 2007
8. Lori Ann's Visit 2007  (May 25, 2007)
What a wonderful day! First thing this morning we visited Cathedral Gardens in Henryville, IN and let me just say it is the most beautiful place I've ever seen. So much beauty...I truly think it is the closest thing to Heaven on Earth that you could ever see. And what an inspirational place! It literally brings tears to your eyes it is so filled with the Spirit of The Lord. Such a lovely tribute that has been built all to glorify Christ. Just stunning and we're so happy we were able to go there!

Then, later in the day, we went to Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY where we were escorted to a private suite that faced the track, given a tour of the paddock, trainer's area and we were thisclose to the horses and jockeys as they mounted up! We were treated like we actually had money, when we really don't, lol. I have to say, I could get used to the way the other half lives!

We bet on all 11 races and I have to say, I did great as far as I'm concerned. :) Well, I would have been much better if I'd bet to win, but I'm happier getting to cash out a ticket every race...and I did do just that except on one race because my horse scratched. I ended up coming out $35+ ahead. :) If I had bet to win I would have won $70+ because 5 or 6 of my horses won. :) Funny, cause I only go by the names, lol. So much for the racing sheets, handicappers, etc.

Lori Ann came out a bit behind but only because she bet two horses in each race. :) Norma ended up losing her regular...about $25 over the course of the day. Scott and Brett, well, I was funding them and they didn't do so hot...they both only won on one race, but they had a great time, too. It was THE BOMB! :)

Bomba
9. Bomba  (December 11, 2006)
This is Bomba, the kitten we are thinking of adopting. We are introducing him slowly to our dogs, Holly (German Shepherd) and Remmy (Rat Terrier) because we would hate for anything to happen to the little guy. He's 6 weeks old now and we'd be getting him at 8 weeks provided things work out.

I'm cautiously optimistic and hoping things work out fine, but will not risk his safety. Remmy does great with him and is very gentle. Holly is used to playing with a stuffed kitten that cries and sounds just like Bomba does, so she's a bit more enthusiastic than I'm comfortable with. She has a VERY high prey drive and since he's so tiny I'm fearful of letting him down around her. Time will tell if Bomba joins our family.

By the way, I did NOT name him that. My brother did and it has stuck. His full name is Bomba Le Deuce. He is named after a nickname my brother calls my husband, which is Bomba. He says that since Scott (husband) eats all the time (he's so mean!) and so does the kitten, he named it Bomba Le Deuce (Bomba #2) because it's just like Scott. :) Silly boys.

If Bomba comes to live here, his name will be Bomba Bixby Young. Initially he'll be Bomba Bixby so as to help him learn his new name. After that he'll just be Bixby...I think, although I must admit that Bomba has grown on me. :)

And remember, in the end, it's the dogs of Ratbone Rescues that will win.

Tickets are available from September 16 thru December 2, 2006 at www.ratbonequilt.com. If you'd like tickets or more information, please go to www.ratbonequilt.com. Drawing to be held on December 7, 2006.

This quilt was lovingly crafted by Rat Terrier lovers from all over the United States. It took months to complete, but was worth every moment of time it took to make it. It is pretty much queen size, measuring roughly 90" X 92".

The names you'll see embroidered around the heart are the names of dogs that those of us who worked on the quilt, along with our family and friends, loved and lost. They forever remain in our hearts, so it's appropriate that they would be showcased in such a way.

Thank you to all who sent their unique and lovely blocks to me, but especially to our wonderful quilter, Elen Morell, who not only volunteered her time and material to do the quilting, she also designed and set the entire thing together as well. It looks lovely! Thanks so much, Elen!

This quilt is King size. It was lovingly crafted by Rat Terrier lovers from all over the United States. It took months to complete, but was worth every drop of sweat it took to make it. Thank you to all who sent their unique and lovely blocks to me and to those of you who were kind enough to donate money to help defray expenses.

A very special thanks to my mother, Mary Lois Shepherd, without whom this project would not have been accomplished. The blocks were mailed to me, but she and I set them altogether. Let me just say this...she is the one who sews, not me! Thanks, Mom!

Many thanks to Jan from Crazy Dog Lady Pet Portrait Quilts for donating the incredible center medallion for our quilt! Last but certainly not least, the quilt wouldn't be half as nice if it weren't for our wonderful quilter, Elen Morell! Thank you, Elen!

This quilt was entered into a quilt show in Sellersburg, Indiana on August 26th, where it was awarded a BLUE RIBBON!
