The ubiquitous McDonalds, even in China. By the river they only sell ice cream.

But at a regular McDonalds they sell what we're used to and then some! Cucumber is a popular burger topping.

On our way to Yu Gardens, an excursion that was cut short by the captain's meeting.
Mmm, squid on a stick...
Susie at Arno and Boris' hotel after the opening ceremonies.
The sign outside the Bund sightseeing tunnel. It crosses the river underground very quickly.
The tunnel is full of bright lights and cheesy effects. Nothing really special but something fun to do once.

On the other side of the river from the Pudong district, things are busier and less prosperous.

In the Pudong district, all the wires are buried underground while here they clog up the air above the streets.

Some translations are always funny!

The view of the TV Tower from across the river.

The view from Arno Hobart's room at night. You can see almost all of Shanghai!

We visited the Chinese sex history museum during a match off. It was very interesting, if surprising!
Many of the artifacts in the museum were very old.

If you build it, she will come!
We visited a street that was designed to look like Shanghai in 1930.
The architecture in Shanghai is lovely.

China has used a wide variety of tokens, notes, and coins as currency over the years. Before money was used, millet was the standard unit of barter.

The seals in this exhibit are very intricately detailed. Seals are still popular in China as tourists can buy one made with their "Chinese name" on any street corner!

A musician entertained restaurant patrons at an outdoor cafe.

After the bridge tonight, we went for a team dinner at the Grape Leaf, a Thai restaurant.
The waitresses sing 80s music and dance with you!
Arno and Joey dancing with waitresses.
Dan dancing with a waitress, while Fred, Sheila, and Don ponder the menu.
Joey with some of the restaurant staff.
He makes a good police officer after they trade hats!
The delicious food we were served. The plates kept coming and they were all fabulous.
Joey calling for another Tsingtao beer.

Joey pins Canadian flag pins on the staff. They are lining up to get one!
Muriel gives Don a kiss for the camera.
Susie is enjoying a nice evening out.

The Hyatt. This hotel seems to reach the heavens!
The Shanghai skyline at night.
Dessert at the Marriott- pear creme brulee.
Dan outside the Shanghai Aquarium. This was the best aquarium we'd ever been to! It had a huge variety of fish and animals and was very entertaining.

The brightly coloured fish are often very dangerous, either poisonous to eat or they have sharp venomous scales.
The aquarium had a whole section devoted to dangerous fish and animals.

This escalator was actually inside a fish tank. They ran a large tube inside the tank to transport people, and you could see fish swimming all around you.

The penguins were very playful and enjoyed being watched.

These crabs are called Horseshoe crabs and are actually from the pre jurassic period. They've been around for millions of years and are called living fossils.
If these crabs flip over and cannot right themselves by rolling or using their tail spike for balance, they will die.

These crabs were enormous!

These eggs were just truly amazing. From 11-20 days on, there was actually constant visible movement in each egg. It was quite an experience to be watching shark gestation!

We treated ourselves to dinner at Jean Georges, a famous restaurant in Shanghai serving French fusion cuisine.
This was the amuse bouche, some kind of solid shell with champagne inside.
Creme brulee foie gras with sour cherry.
Softshelled crab in lemongrass.
Scallops with candied cauliflower in dijon sauce.
Frogs' legs and garlic soup.
French onion soup topped with a cheddar cheese biscuit.
Seasoned cod served with a sweet coulis and lima beans.
Lobster tartine in Thai lemongrass sauce.
Lobster with steamed brown butter and salad.
Lamb chops with spinach and mushrooms.

The dessert sampler: chocolate raspberry biscuit, caramel mousse, parfait on a stick, and chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream.
The petit fours- three small marshmallowlike cakes (coconut, raspberry, and vanilla), and a variety of little chocolates.
Each chocolate was different and quite unique. One was topped with salt!

Even a little shopping can add up!
Super Brand Mall, where there were a lot of good restaurants and shopping if you wanted legitimate brand name stuff.
Saizeriya, a really delicious Italian restaurant where you could have a great meal for three dollars. It was very popular with the locals!
We took a walking tour suggested in our guidebook on our last day in Shanghai. We started at the City Temple.
We saw a lot of things most tourists probably don't! Fresh seafood sold in the streets- so fresh it still wants to get out of the tank!
