Enlarge photo 6

Because it was easter we practiced the catch and release rule - (and no we didn't release him for rat terrier bait - although there was talk)

There was a swarm of about 20 or more hummingbirds around the feeder (summer 2010)

Enlarge photo 19
19
They usually hit the feeders at dusk and stay until it's dark enough to turn on the porch light

Enlarge photo 20
20
Interestingly ALL of these are males - you can tell by the red necks AND the wales whistle, the females hum (vibrate) - both genders chirp when sparring.

Sam was orphaned at 2 weeks old when her mom got hit by a car.  She and her littermates were bottle fed by a human fostermom.  She is 8.5 weeks old in this picture

Enlarge photo 35

BIG YAWN Sam had a busy first day home - the only member of the family she didn't get to meet yet is Devan who is on a vacation.
