Joy Gibat Thanks for your interest in my work. For years I have traveled the country showing my art, but at 66, I have decided that I prefer to put my energy into creating. I have a few galleries that exhibit my art, but I miss the personal contact with people. Thus, I have decided to explore the web. I enjoy meeting the people who buy my work. It is important to me to receive input from those who react to my work. Although, I have a BFA in Art and Art History, I have discovered that just doing has been the best teacher for me. This welded tree is carefully built of molten steel. After the base and all of the branches are formed, I shape each copper leaf and brazes it to its own branch with a drop of brass. When all are attached, I heat and cool each leaf to various rose-red colors. It is welded to a steel rotating base so that you can view and enjoy it as a 3 dimensional sculpture. This piece is aprox. 10½" tall x 9" X 6". about 20 hours from start to completion.
A 2011 calendar from the Norman Art Council arrived this morning, featuring my copper roses for the month of February. I remember submitting some images but it was a long time ago, and as I never heard anything more, I assumed that the project was scraped. If I had known I might have bought some.
Similar to my Copper Roses these made with brass will be yellow or gold color. If I lived in Texas I might call them "Yellow Roses of Texas" but I live in Oklahoma.
Photos of my newest designs as well as photos of a few of my older classic ones. If not pleased, they may be returned for full refund. Call 405-329-0862 or

Many Native Americans believe that the gift of a feather is an honor and that it brings Prosperity. This flamed colored copper feather is protected with a clear enamel. The brass bead is similar to ones used in trade during the 1700 and 1800. Brass, the color of the sun, symbolizes happiness . For best results, hang on east wall, east where the sun rises and prosperity begins.

During the late 1960's as I begun welding, I had few resources. I wanted to make a gift, something unique, something strong, for a dear friend. The song "the Old Rugged Cross" popped into my head. I had a vision of a cross with a asymetrical abstract design made from various sizes of steel welding rods. Since then i have been fascinated abstracting within the cross shape. Later,as a decorative and symbolic devise, I added brass. Brass is a symbol of Happiness and Life as it is the color of the sun. Thus, I hope my crosses bring their owners much Strength and Happiness.
The vastness of this land gives rise to your hopes and dreams. The feathers represent prosperity while the brass beads are for happiness. Joy has created this copper shield using her unique method of pounding and embossing. The coloration occurs by sliding the flame of the torch across the metal which is then quickly cooled in water. The copper is mounted on suede matboard. Both the shield and the feathers are protected with a clear sealer. Sold 7/15/03 I will have some other ones available soon.
