State Auburn, Alive & Well!
In memory of my old friend, Guy K. Eriksen, 35mm film projection equipment was re-installed in the State Theatre, 985 Lincoln Way, Auburn, California. It was one of Guy's wishes upon death to see that the State could exhibit film! I was pleased to be a pert of this event. Guy would be proud! He had operated projectors at the State many times over the years. In fact, I had assisted Guy on two occaisions in the last five years installing automated projecrtors at the State, however, they were removed in november 2008 by their owner, leaving the State without film equipment! Thanks to the efforts of the current owners and operators, the Auburn Placer Performng Arts Council, and the Estate of Guy Eriksen, equipment was re-installed so the grand old State could once again entertain people with film!

A beautiful replacement made off original designs by YESCO of Reno, NV. After the work of the many members of the Auburn Placer Performing Arts Council who currently own the building.

This was one of the dreams come true for the late guy K. Eriksen, a local projectionist that operated in the State many years ago. Unfortunately, Guy passed away about 5 months before this sign was installed.

I was lucky to help fulfill another of Guy's wishes, that of returning 35mm film projection to the grand old State! Here is the booth when I started work March 28, 2009.

I set the pedistals up and started to assemble the equipment. The equipment will be a simple two projector reel to reel manual changeover system. Guy always preferred operating the 'old fashion way'!

After 3 days, here is what the finished project looks like! Simplex XLs, RCA 9030 soundheads, Strong Super Lume-X lamps, 2000ft IPC Magazines.

This is basically the same equipment that Guy had set up in his home screening room! They were his favorite model of 35 equipment!

Since the State will be exhibiting vintage and archive films, a good mono sound system was all they need! Here is the well known Kelmar AS-1200 system with the 120+ Amplifier, a good reliable, simple system. The soundheads are equipped with JaxLite red Leds in case they do run a more current release.

I installed a new screen too! The theatre was twinned 20 years ago and this is the left side, eventually, the State will revert to the original screen located on the original stage after the sound wall to the right is removed! The booth had two complete automated platter systems in it, when the wall is removed, the projectors will be re-adjusted to hit the original screen! It was a pleasure to install a good old fashion booth again! I spent 2 days traning the new operators on film handling and changeovers!! It was a nice blast to the past!! The booth is going to be named for Guy Eriksen.
