48" x 48" sign, made of hardboard. It was sanded so the paint would stick, then a complete coat of Rustoleum sky blue paint was applied three times, allowing it to dry for several days in between coats.
Russ torched the wooden letters to bring the grain out, and then applied two coats of varnish. Arlie will put a small roof over the sign to protect it from the elements, and that will cover about 5" of the top, and it should look great when it's finished.
2 Close up of the horses. There's not alot of detail, but they can be seen from far away.
3 I drew a rearing horse, cut it out, then traced it and cut out the second horse. Two cut outs were needed so I could tape them on the sign and see how they'd look.
4 Mountains are painted in. I did this sign in Outdoor/Indoor Acrylic paint. I'm much more comfortable with oils, but the drying time was much too long for this work.
