I have a beautiful collection of brooches given to me by my Grandmother and Mother. For years they sat in a jewellery box and every once in a while, I would take them out to look at them. They are too pretty to wear for fear of losing one, but also too beautiful to hide away in a box.
I designed these brooch holders in order to display the brooches. Now they hang and drape on my dresser and are collaged in groups.
These brooch holders are made in oval and heart shapes. A variety of tapestry, velvet and floral prints are used in creation. The backs are also satin or velvet finished. They are padded and can be used as a pretty pin and needle holder. (Time to discard that old strawberry pin cushion)
Also decorated with a variety of braids, trims and tassel and accented with a ribbon bow. Each holder is approximately 4 inches with a 4 inch cord hanger and 4 inch tassel (in total 12 inches long!)

Title: I'll be Home for Christmas
Altered Paper Mache House
Side one, this is a double sided hanger.
The other side has the Christmas carol "I'll be Home for Christmas" written by a soldier during world war 2.
The front is decorated with a window with the warm glow of the home fire. I have added the 2 flags to represent Canada and USA in honor of our soldiers fighting for our freedom far away from home.
The 2 red cardinals are nesting in the pines and I have decorated based on the carol, with snow, mistletoe and presents under the tree.
Side 2 I've added the poem here framed inside a frame with a red white and blue ribbon suitable for both countries. I found some flag images and distressed them for an aged look, added an assortment of birds to tie in with the front of the house, yellow ribbons to honor those we still wait to come home, and gold stars for our heros.

I used a wooden box with a sliding lid. Box is approx 6" x 2" and 1" deep.
Stained with walnut stain and collaged with vintage scraps of sheet music. I embellished with filigree brass pieces, the one on top is to use for a finger pull to open the box. I added a wire hanger to hang on the wall and finished with a very pretty miniature wooden violin with bow.
Finished with a light varnish coat to seal all.
The inside has a piece of sheet music along the back and ready to fill as desired.
These boxes could be used for all types of treasures and bits and pieces.
I use mine by the wood stove to keep wooden matches. It would also be a great place to store pins, buttons, elastic bands, keys or any type of treasure etc.
