American Hairless Terriers This folder contains our special American Hairless Terriers at Four Paws.
AHT's (hairless variety) is a new addition to Four Paws and we are very excited to be adding them to our program!
Back in 1999 when the Rat Terriers were first recognized as a breed, they AHT was considered a variety of the Rat Terrier. In 2004, the AHT was granted seperate breed recognition.
Back in 1999, we (Four Paws) were honored to be involved in the outcross breeding program; which consisted of breeding the Rat Terrier to the American Hairless Terrier. This cross helped diversify and enlarge the existing AHT gene pool. My Rat Terrier Olive (sisiter to Amber) was bred to Teri Murphy's (Wudnshu) AHT and they produced 4 pupppies. One female, Glory went onto earn her UKC CH title with Teri Murphy and is retired now living in N.C.
We continued with our exclusive Rat Terrier program until recently when I decided to add the AHT, hairless variety, to my kennel. I continue to show, terrier race, and weight pull my dogs. We have started training some of our dogs as therapy dogs.
The AHT is unique in the fact they are completely hairless. Many people who are allergic to a dog's dander can own a AHT due to the fact they do not have fur or dander.
Since the AHT was developed directly from the Rat Terrier; they are the same breed except the AHT’s are completely hairless which allows people with allergies the opportunity to have a family dog.

FourPaws Rhiannons Glory (August 1, 2008)Meet Fourpaws Rhiannons Glory, AKA Glory. She is our first generation of American Hairless Terriers.
The theme for my first AHT litter was Celtic to honor my friend Suzie, our Irish heritage and her love of all things Celtic. Rhiannon is the Celtic Goddess of the Singing Birds.
We have high hopes for Glory and plan to train her in conformation, terrier racing, and other performance events.
I expect Glory to mature at about 11 - 12 pounds. |
