Wahlen V.A Hospital in Salt Lake City with the Dedication of a New Fisher House. Fisher Houses are "Comfort Homes" built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers to allow family members to be close to loved ones at a most stressful time, the hospitalization of their loved one. These special housing facilities are made possible by the Fisher House Foundation. The Salt Lake City Fisher House is the very first Fisher House dedicated to the memory of a fallen Soldier... Prive First Class Chance Phelps (USMC). He was the fallen Marine featured in the HBO Movie "Taking Chance" starring Kevin Bacon. |

Busy in Utah (September 01-11, 2010)| September has started off in high gear for Blue Star Riders in Utah. In addition to our bi-weekly visits to the George E. Wahlen V.A. Hospital in Salt Lake City, Blue Star Riders have made visits to local nursing homes to visit our veterans. We have provided clothing and footware to homeless veterans. Items were provided for a raffle to raise money for a fallen soldier scholarship fund for the children of fallen soldiers. Two programs were attended and represented by Blue Star Riderers for Patriots Day. And one final note, a theme was decided upon for the decorating of the Christmas Tree in the Main Lobby of the Hospital, "From Sea to Shining Sea." Whew! Started Strong, now need to finish the month strong as well! |

WWII Veteran Receives Cane From BSR's (May 22nd, 2010)| WWII Veteran (Captain) Ernest M. Chamberlain, was the proud and humble recipient of a cane today, presented to him by the Blue Star Riders in Utah. The Cane was made by Master Wood-Carver Jack Nitz, of the Eastern Oaklahoma Wood Carvers Association, and founder of the Eagle Cane Project. Mr. Chamberlain, age 94, can recall vividly details of his experiances in WWII, from his landing at Utah Beach in Normandy, to the Battle of the Buldge, where with General Bradleys 1st Army and General Pattons 5th Army they flanked and defeated their foe. Mr Chamberlain was very moved by the gift of his cane, "To think that someone would care so much to say thank you after so many years..." Blue Star Riders Care! Thank-You Captain Chamberlain, for your Honorable Service and Sacrifices, that still matter today. You helped change the world! |

Corporal Cooper, lost a leg when a grenade exploded in a room they were clearing while engaged with Anti-Iraqi Forces in Ramadi, Iraq. His other leg was severly injured as well. Blue Star Rider receives Cane (03/23/09)Blue Star Rider "Gordy" Ewell was the recipient of a special Eagle Cane, courtesy of Jack Nitz (Oaklahoma Woodcarvers Association) with some extra special finishing touches by Blue Star Rider founder Richard "Wolf" Hamilton. "Gordy" was severely wounded by roadside bombs in Iraq in 2006, and requires the use of canes and walkers to get around. He is also legally blind and deaf. |
