Yes folks...you are correct. This was probably not a 1984 Stratocaster. Almost certainly post-1986. Upon further investigation it seems clear that his type tremolo and the 22 fret neck didn't appear on USA Strats until at least 1986-87. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused. "they didnot come out with the american standard tremlo until 1987 this is not a real 84 its a 87 for sure the ealier trem had L shaped string guides" --bry, 04/18/08 "my 84 strat has the same tremolo" --kurdt, 06/17/08 "Hi, I just bought a 1984 strat made in usa. I spent 1587 usd. Is it good?" --Simone Filippin, 06/23/08 "The serial number on mine begins with E4. The manual that came with it says it's an American Standard Stratocaster. The first year of production for the American Standard Strat was 1987. Some early 1988's had the E4 serial number prefix also. If it is an American Standard Stratocaster with E4 prefix, it's got to be an 87 or early 88. Why E4??? Left over CBS necks perhaps.." --Jerry, 11/21/08 "I need help. I am trying to sell a strat for my son and can't seem to pinpoint the right info.
the guitar is mia but has a E4548... serial. It has USA on neck but i am so confused. HELP! What can I sell it for?" --cher, 02/12/09 "The easiest way to know if your E4 is an 87/88, besides the different trem or actually pulling the neck and checking the date, is to just look at the neck: starting in 1987 the American Standard Stratocaster had 22-fret necks. No Strat before these ever had a 22-fret neck - EVER. These aren't leftover necks, or bodies, or electronics - these are just leftover serial number decals. Here's a good article on the first American Standards - http://www.stratcollector.com/newsdesk/archives/000204.html" --Eric, 06/01/09 "84 American Strat.
I personally bought this new in box, from a big music store, in 1984. It has spent all but 6 months of its 25 year life in storage. 21 fret neck. only 2 knobs. All maple neck. NO OPENING on the back. #E326953.
Any idea what it's worth? Please contact if you have any idea." --Ben, 09/15/09 "i have a 1984 strat-e335968, 2 knobs, and input is on the pick guard, worth anything?" --Vic, 03/06/10 "string trees & tremolo='87+..." --agy.040, 02/08/11 |
