Thanks for putting the pics on Everett.  I've arranged for this Oshkosh Earth Science Club fieldtrip since 1987 and then opened it up to all members having MWF insurance in 2001. Steve Smith, Operational Manager of Vulcan Materials, Inc in Oshkosh opens this to us once a year. That way he is not bothered by people asking to enter otherwise as it is a quarry that operates Mon-Sat when season permits. It has been in operation since the mid 1850's when horses did the work hauling the rock blocks to ship to Chicago and Milwaukee for building foundations.  It was known for years as the Lutz Quarry until the last 30 odd years and has always produced stunning specimens.  In 2001 we hit pay dirt in beautiful ropes of chalcopyrite on pink calcite and the irridesent marcasites usually pop up for someone.  The South wall I had hoped would be the area we got in this year and when I asked, Steve said too wet.....but that is the area they brought the bucket over from and crushed up for you all. This area is highly mineralized and new material area being blasted.
Next year some of that area should be the area we are in. Due to a health issue at the last minute I was not able to attend (bummer). My children youth group families attended the first time and that is what I looked forward to...seeing the kids discover and learn.  Cori Nelson has become involved in the youth group now since last fall and together we have been doing some demonstrating as outreach for the public.  This helps me greatly as she has the enthusiasm and energy and Iam slowly trying to get back out of the blunt of politics of clubwork.
Since 1992 Ive been obsessed with the rock and then joined the Ishpeming club, then the Oshkosh Club and planned field trips for most of those years. Ive gone the gamut of club officers, state director,show chairman, etc and now just want to quietly roam. My love of traveling and adventure has led me into much of the USA seeking the rock and I toss my dog in the car and roam meeting wonderful folks. The North Carolina area will be my next true adventure and I check on Rick J. wncrocks.com and simply drool. Are you and your Mom planning any trips to N.C.?
That is the life.........anyway, have a great time collecting geodes.  Cori Nelson, our club Secretary, has said she will be attending and Iam sure she will come back full of great stories and have beauties to show and tell.
