Hi all, and thanks for visiting
Killen's Rat Terriers.
We're located in Georgia. These are mostly photos of our Rat Terriers, but also our other animals many of which are rescues.

"Feist and Rat Terrier

There has been considerable crossing of feist dogs, since they are bred primarily for performance as hunting dogs. Feist dogs are the progenitor of what we now call the Rat Terrier. The Rat Terrier is a specific breed within the "feist" umbrella. Because the word "feist" refers to a general type of dog just as "hound" and "terrier" refer to a group of breeds, Rat Terriers are often called "feist". The terriers brought to America in the 1890s from England were crossed with feist dogs already here in addition to some of the Toy breeds (Toy Fox Terrier, Manchester Terrier and Chihuahua) to develop the Rat Terrier we know today." - The preceeding was taken from Wikipedia.

Rat Terriers make great hunters, pets/companions and with plenty of excersize & attention they'll make a wonderful addition to your family.

We occasionaly raise a litter of Rat Terriers and make them available to homes who want to make them part of their family. Our goal is to breed for quality - proper temperament, confirmation, correct ear carriage, & health. They are sold with a health guarantee & a contract. If you're interested in one of our puppies, let us know what your interests are so that we can try to insure that you & your new Rat Terrier are going to be happy together.

3. Rescue  (May 15, 2005)
To inquire about any dog listed here see link below photo.

Please anyone wanting to add a pet to their family take the time to consider a rescue. Also please understand it is a lifelong commitment. Consider adopting a shelter pet and ensure that it is spayed or neutered.
There are many wonderful pets in need of loving homes.

There are a number of organizations that rescue Rat Terriers in need of homes. They have both Rat Terrier adults and puppies that need to be adopted. Don't rule them out because of their location, they often have ways of getting their dogs to their new homes across the country free of charge to the new owner.

To see what they have available and how you can help, see the list of rescue sites listed below:

Occasionally we have a puppy or adult for placement. We prefer that our puppies/adults go to an in home environment as part of your family, and not kenneled outside.

If you think your family would like a new best friend, you can reach me by e-mail @ emj@monroeaccess.net or by phone @ 770-378-5057

We may occasionally have one that is not pictured.

Here's the short version of our story:
In 2000 we got our first Decker (although we'd had Terriers for years) and named him "Decker"
The next year my husband wanted a couple of pups to take hunting & started looking for a female that suited him. It was not as easy back then to find a Decker as it is now. We talked with all the Decker breeders we could find then. In March of 2002 we aquired Cindy as a 2 year old adult.

If in a couple of years the 2 pups we kept from her 1st mating are healthy/quality examples of the Deckers, we will breed them in an effort to continue the line. These potential breedings will not be based solely on percentages, but on what the dogs have to offer with relation to structure, health, hunting ability, and temperament.

Our main concern is the placement of the pups we breed, and their welfare/happiness is of the utmost importance to us. While I do realize that one can never be completely assured that their placement will be what we consider a success, we must try our best to find them homes in which they will get adequate attention. This attention includes providing them with sufficient time with their human companions and sufficient training to insure that all will have a harmonious relationship. We make it known to all the families that if they're not happy with their pup/dog that we will take it back. We never want any to end up in a shelter, neglected or unwanted.
