Kamudavalli Peter is a college professor of Tamil Studies at the TBMLC College (a Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church college). She volunteered to be the administrator at the Tranquebar orphanage caring for 90-some girls ages five to 15 who are orphaned by the tsunami. "It's very important to protect the girls for being sexually exploited," she said. They were in the middle of Sunday Services when the tsunami hit; they ran to the roof for safety. The historic church suffered some damage. There were 600 deaths in Tranquebar, half were children.
