Group photo Edit
The group departs for worship with an ILEP congregation.  ELCA World Hunger helps to support some of the community kitchen programs of ILEP congregations.  The community kitchens are a great example of how people living in poverty can create their own solutions to hunger.  Our gifts connect communities with the resources they need to break the cycles of hunger and poverty.

Making Bricks Edit
In Sol de America, a community on the outskirts of Cusco, the worshipping community of Tulitha Kum is building its first church building.  The sanctuary will come second - the congregation's first priority is completing the community kitchen so community members have a place to gather for low-cost meals and meetings.

Workshop at Huchuy Runa Edit
Huchuy Runa is a ministry supported by ELCA World Hunger in Cusco, Peru that provides a safe, educational environment for children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to go to school.  An important part of the program is art classes - kids at Huchuy Runa study under local artisans to learn crafts they can later turn into job skills.

Teaching kids about human rights Edit
Many of the children who are enrolled in the Huchuy Runa have experienced exploitation or neglect.  Huchuy Runa teaches kids that they have rights--to food, to be recognized as citizens, to health care, and to be treated fairly without discrimination.  Some Huchuy Runa alumns are now teachers, agronomists, and local artisans.

Bounty of Mother Earth Edit
In Huancavelica, a city high in the Andes mountains, members of the San Javier cooperative welcomed us with a spread of indigenous foods - crops grown by their ancestors for millenia.  ELCA World Hunger gifts help to support the cooperative members in developing income-generating projects like knitting, raising trout, and growing food.
