Rawlins Reunion (October 20, 2001)| My first ever high school reunion, after 19 years (we're not as organized about reunions in England!) - at Rawlins Upper School, Quorn. It was fun to catch up with lots of people I hadn't seen since leaving - thanks to Alison Green and Alison Hopkins (Topham) for organising it. |

Grand Canyon (August 16, 2001)| The day after driving to Vegas, we went on an air tour of the Grand Canyon, which was fantastic. We flew over the Canyon, then landed on the south rim and took a bus to a couple of different points along the rim. |

Drive to Las Vegas (August 15, 2001)| The last of my student visitors, Araluen, wanted to drive to Las Vegas and see the Grand Canyon, which is a trip I have really been wanting to do in Lola (my Porsche Boxster), so I decided to drive down with her. It was a great trip - it's such an amazing drive. Mainly drove along I-70, with detours to go over Loveland Pass and to visit Arches National Park. Got into Vegas shortly after midnight and cruised the Strip in Lola :) . |

Colorado August 2001 (August 12-14, 2001)| Had another couple of "Coolidge Pathfinder" visitors from my old college, Sarah and Araluen. We did the traditional trip to Rocky Mountain National Park, and this time saw a herd of eight or so Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, the most I've ever seen. A couple of days later, Araluen and I went to see a baseball game, the Colorado Rockies against the Atlanta Braves, and George W Bush was also there. I was surprised that he got a lot of boos from the crowd - though I'm not sure whether this was a political statement, or because of the fact that it took 45 minutes to get into the ground as we all had to go through security metal detectors. |

Santa Fe Opera 2001 (August 2-4, 2001)| The annual Santa Fe Opera trip went very well, with 44 attendees in all. Six of us went to see Mitridate by Mozart on Thursday evening, 25 people came to dinner at the Coyote Cafe on Friday evening, and 44 came to the tailgate party on Saturday night before Lucia di Lammermoor. (First 6 photos courtesy of Jon Bresler). |

Denver Ashes (July 29, 2001)| Played for England in the "Denver Ashes" cricket game against Australia. It was a close game - we got 145 in 30 overs and they needed 9 off the last over to win, but managed to hit a 6 and a 3 off the first two balls. Thanks to Nick Furness for taking most of the photos here. This one in particular is a fine action shot. |

Stanley Cup Final (August 2-4, 2001)| Had a big party for the seventh game of the Stanley Cup Final (the FA Cup Final of ice hockey for you foreigners), in which the Colorado Avalanche beat the New Jersey Devils 3-1 to win the cup. The new home theater with 8 foot wide screen was a big hit! The game was played at the Pepsi Center, a few minutes walk from my loft, and there was a baseball game on at the same time, so afterwards the streets were filled with 50,000 celebrating people which was great fun. The police weighed in with tear gas at one stage, but we managed to avoid that - overall there wasn't any serious trouble. |

Indy 500 (May 26, 2001)I went to the Indy 500, my first major motor racing event, with my friends Amy, Kimberley and Aaron. Amy was the organizer - it's her eighth year there. It's the world's biggest single day sporting event, with about 400,000 people attending, and it was great fun.
The top speed of the cars is over 200mph. For an idea of how fast this is, check out the video at the end of the album (warning: this is 2.7Mb so it will take a while to download on a slow connection). If you don't already have it, you'll need Quicktime to view it. Try to pause it with a car in the frame - this gives you an idea of what it's like trying to photograph the cars! I used the burst mode on my digital camera a lot, which takes a sequence of photos at 0.6 second intervals, and deleted the many pictures of empty track as I went along! |

New Orleans Jazzfest (April 26-31, 2001)| Had the usual excellent time at the first weekend of the Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans, staying with my friends Jon and Michelle (my eighth consecutive year). There was a big contingent of out of town guests this year. Big names performing included BB King, The Wallflowers, Doctor John and Van Morrison. |

Loft warming party (March 31, 2001)| I had a big loft-warming party on March 31 - over 100 people came along, and the festivities continued from 5:30pm to 2:30am (without any complaints from the neighbors!). Excellent catering was provided by my friend April and drinks included apple martinis, Pimms and (of course) Wynkoop beer (Railyard Ale).
