1. Santa Cruz Island 2009 (October 17-18, 2009)

The Boy Scouts took a boat trip to Santa Cruz Island. It was a 22 mile ride to the island from Ventura Harbor with plenty of dolphins to keep us company. A five mile hike on Saturday afternoon and a ten mile hike on Sunday morning were the main objectives. It was a great trip we would love to do it again.

2. Sailing Symposium 2009 (October 10, 2009)

The Boy Scouts go sailing on Santa Monica Bay at the 41st Annual Sailing Symposium. We had some sailing lessons and practice in the morning and ran three races in the afternoon.

5. Sequoia National Park 2009 (May 31, 2009)

Brian was home for the summer and we went to visit Morgan for the weekend. She lives about 30 miles from the Sequoia National Park, so we decided to take a day trip to Moro Rock and the General Sherman tree.

8. Mt. Islip Hike (November 8-9, 2008)

Troop 104 took a 50 mile trip to the San Gabriel Mountains for a 5 mile hike up Mt. Islip. We then camped at Dads' Cabin before returning home the next day. The weather was perfect for the hike and pretty rotten for camping.

9. Beijing Summer Olympics 2008 (7/30/08 - 8/28/08)

I went to the Summer Olympics in Beijing. I am doing edit systems maintenance for Athletics (Track and Field) and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies at the Bird's Nest (National Stadium). 10. Santa Cruz Island 2008 (June 28-29, 2008)

Troop 104, 23 Scouts and Dads, took the 20 mile boat trip from Ventura Harbor to Santa Cruz Island. We took 10 kayaks and had a blast exploring the kelp forests and sea caves. Later in the day we took a four mile hike for incredible sunset views of the island hills, cliffs and Pacific Ocean. Sunday morning there was time for more kayaking and then the one hour ride back to the mainland.

Troop 104 went to the Malibu Mountain Archery Club to shoot arrows until we could shoot no more.

We took Morgan back to school at Monterey Bay and drove home via Highway 1.

13. Fire Mountain 2006 (August 5-12, 2006)

Troop 104 headed to Summer Camp at Fire Mountain. We flew to Seattle and then drove about 60 miles north to camp.

14. 50 Mile Hike 2006 (June 23-30, 2006)

Nine scouts, two Eagle Scouts and four dads from Troop 104 did a 50 mile hike in five days in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. We were just east of Mt. Shasta in northeast California. 16. Torino (February 2006)

I went to the Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. I am doing edit systems maintenance for the opening and closing ceremonies and hockey. The stadium and hockey arena are side by side and several hundred yards from our TV compound. In addition to a large TV mobile unit from England, much of gear is shipped in and setup in trailers. 22. Olympic Trials in Sacramento (July 5-19, 2004)

Don traveled to Sacramento for two weeks for the Olympic Track & Field Trials. He is doing technical maintenance for the edit systems. On his (one) day off he drove about 200 miles north to Lassen National Park.

24. Santa Cruz Island Camping (November 1-2, 2003)

The Boy Scouts took a boat ride to Santa Cruz Island National Park from Ventura, CA. We hiked about five miles on Saturday and seven miles on Sunday. The senior scouts split off and hiked to a couple of peaks while the rest of us hiked to Smuggler's Cove. The boat ride home was wet and wild.
