| 46.Monterey RescueThe Latest Guinea Pigs from Monterey
In August LAST YEAR, 350 guinea pigs were rescued from a breeder who had been evicted from their home. They called the SPCA of Monterey to take their guinea pigs. These people had been breeding guinea pigs for biomedical research for 30 years.
Most have been placed, but these poor guys have been living at the Monterey Shelter for a YEAR now!! They need a loving home! Please adopt one of these piggies and show them the love and attention that they've never had. Many of the Monterey pigs that have been adopted have made very sweet, lovable pets.
You can still view the photo album of all the guinea pigs the day after the surrender, on Sept 1, 2001. We were there and got a lot of piggie photos! Go to the MHS album.
Most of the white guinea pigs are FEMALES. Also, despite the lighting of the photo, they all have black eyes.
BUT, when we went down to Monterey to get what we thought were the remaining 36 guinea pigs, they had just received in a new group of guinea pigs in very bad condition. The photos in the vehicle are from the trip back up from Monterey (a three hour trek).
Photos of M1 through M20 were taken at MHS a while ago when we were planning on doing another trip with them. We will be checking those photos against who we brought back as as well as who is now at PHS for adoption. So, some of those photos may change.
Currently ALL of these guinea pigs are at one person's home. She and her family are fostering them for us.

| 47.Bay Area Shelter Guinea PigsGuinea Pigs at San Francisco Bay Area Shelters
We are starting with the abundance of guinea pigs at the Peninsula Humane Society. We gave 8 from the Monterey Humane Society to PHS when PHS had none. A few others have been surrendered since.
But, the big problem now (Sept 6th) is a recent seizure from a woman (not right mentally) of 36 guinea pigs that all have very bad mites that were found running loose in her house. No food or water. These pigs will be held as evidence for 14 days. Then it depends on whether or not she surrenders them as to whether or not they have to continue to hold them as evidence.

| 49.Piggebago Road Trip! The Guinea Pigs-A-Go-Go Rescue Railroad Trip Jackie, Becky, Sophie, and Oreo (faithful companion) set off across the country on Monday, August 5th. The album starts the Sunday evening, prior to the trip, with final preparations. They returned safe and sound Friday at 5:30pm on August 16th. An 11-day, 5700-mile trip! One pig was brought back from the mid-west to go to Vancouver, Canada. One pig got mixed up and didn't make his destination and so will be finding a great new home in the Bay Area after touring the States!

| 53.Adopted!
These are photos of the Cavy Spirit piggies who have gone to new homes. Adopted Guinea Pigs! This is certainly not an inclusive list of all of our adoptions because quite a few get adopted before we get a chance to get photos taken and published on the website. And we didn't start doing this procedure with the photos until fairly recently. But, it's nice to see so many adoptions. Just a note: we don't update the description with dates of adoptions. We just move the original photos and descriptions and comments to this album.

This album highlights photos of Kara's cage. She made a base using grids and a stand using grids. She has some allergies in their family. They lift the entire cage off of the stand and carry the grids with the coroplast outdoors for cleaning.
The bright little things at the connectors are cable ties or zip ties. They are plastic ties available at hardware and home improvement stores used to bind wire cords together to keep them from being messy. You can buy a big package of them for just a dollar or two. Kara used the zip ties to make the cage very strong by reinforcing all of the connections.
These photos also show how she made a hack rack out of an extra grid. She looped some cable ties together at the top. She cut some extra Coroplast for the back of the hay rack to prevent spillage out the back of the cage.

This album focuses on ONE RAMP DESIGN that is VERY EASY-to-MAKE, SAFE, EASY-to-CLEAN, provides MAXIMUM FLOOR SPACE, and is NOT TOO STEEP for your guinea pigs. They will use this ramp and you can make it in a snap or a bend.
