Thanks for putting this album together. Sue, you must have the patience of Job. Such a challenging task as squaring up the quilt done by GGM Smith would have me searching for what little hair I have left so I could rip it out!
I remember your story about the woman who left all the fabric, but seeing it now in stacks/piles I have a great mental image of you toting all that into the house. The cats must really love you (and all of that color).
Talk with you soon ... Love you, and take good care of yourselves,

Mavis helping Sue layout "Ribbon" Quilt blocks. She managed to lay down on just about every block. Sue got these blocks at a Society of Friends Quilt Show - What a lot of work for someone, as each block was made up of 1 inch squares and triangles sewed together.

A friend invited Sue to the home of a woman that had been a quilter, and the estate representative had been having a hard time disposing of all the fabric. So a few people were invited to come and take any fabric/books that they fancied. This was Sue's haul - she was upset that I wasn't there to help her (I was on a scout outing with Parker). She said that she could have gotten about 4 times more fabric.

Sue laying out a Butterfly quilt. These are old blocks from the '30s that were given to her by a friend in her "Old Quilt" (Quilts not Quilters) Group.

Mavis wouldn't move so Sue put the block on top of her instead of on the bed with the others.

Another Butterfly Quilt that Sue is working on is for her cousin Mary Jane. The blocks were put together by their Great Grandmother Smith. Here she has laid out the top/batting/backing on the floor, and has pinned all three layers together so they can be quilted.

The blocks were originally sewn together as a single top, and Sue was supposed to put it together with batting and backing. It was very frustrating as the top was not square, and one side was considerably longer than the other. To solve the problem, Sue separated the blocks and squared them off, and even had to add patching material to get all the squares to be uniform. She then added the yellow strips to separate the blocks.
