We lost our original cat Rajah last April, and finally in August we decided to get another cat - Basie. We were hoping that he would bond with Sue, so she would have her cat and I would have mine (Tux). Unfortunately, Basie was more interested in Tux and Bill. After looking at a lot of cats, we found Mavis at PAWS and it has worked out pretty well (Tux would dispute that).

Looks to me to get Basie out of there!

enlarge 196KB, 800x600 16 Close up of Tux - Our "Free" cat, who was on his own in our neighborhood for about a year. I don't know how he survived. I always talked to him when I saw him, but he was very skittish and ran away if I went towards him. One day I saw him sitting on our driveway and I took down a handful of food, after which he never left and is now one of the family. I say our "free" cat in jest as we shelled out $600 in vet bills to get him healthy.

Basie is good with the kids, and he likes to play.

enlarge 122KB, 800x600 20 Basie is a "Scare-dy cat" - shies away at any movement. But he is curious and will always be back out again in a few minutes.
enlarge 99KB, 800x600 21 Basie is almost all black except for about 5 white chest hairs.
enlarge 122KB, 800x600 22 We have a dark rug at the top of our stairs and Basie lies on it and you can't see him as you come up the stairs until you finally notice these two eyes staring at you Cheshire cat style.
enlarge 230KB, 800x600 23 Tux looking out the window - he is still an "Outdoor" cat as we let him out a couple of times a day.
enlarge 118KB, 800x600 24 Basie - taking in some late afternoon sunshine on the stair landing.

enlarge 221KB, 800x600 26 We got Mavis (almost a dead ringer for Rajah, who we lost in April) from PAWS. She is a hider, but loves to be petted. We had to keep her segregated from the other cats as she was sick the day after we brought her home from the shelter. She was picked up as a stray and was obviously abandoned by someone. Here she is sitting on the couch next to Sue who was on the computer.
enlarge 178KB, 800x600 27 Mavis in the Living room.
enlarge 187KB, 800x600 28 Mavis has tried out every "sitting" place in the house. She also likes to open cabinets - on a previous photo I said she was a hider. She likes to take a nap in the closet under Sue's hanging clothes. You have to reach in to see if she is there. One day (when she was still segregated in the bedroom) she disappeared - we couldn't find her anywhere. We wondered if she had gotten out when one of us had gone out of the bedroom, so we looked in every cranny upstairs and downstairs two or three times. How can you lose a 16 pound cat? Well, we finally found her under the bathroom sink, wedged in so that she couldn't move in a 45 year accumulation of junk that I'd tossed in there.
enlarge 186KB, 800x600 29 Mavis - really a sweety pie.
enlarge 181KB, 800x600 30 I couldn't believe this - Basie was sleeping on the chair next to my computer and Tux was in the other chair (Yes I have to have two chairs for cats in my small office - I wonder what I'll have to do if Mavis wants to hang out too) Well Tux decided that he wanted to be in Basie's chair so he went over and laid down with Basie. I didn't know he had done this until I heard Tux hissing - Basie must have moved or something.
enlarge 185KB, 800x600 31 Mavis and Basie have become "buddies" (At least Basie thinks they are) Mavis was sitting on the arm of the chair and Basie jumped up on the table and was poking her.
enlarge 177KB, 800x600 32 I said that Mavis has tried all the "sitting" places. Well this is one of her favorites - on top of the back of our sofa is a little depression that she likes to snuggle down into when we are watching TV.
enlarge 171KB, 800x600 33 Close up of Mavis taking a nap.
enlarge 150KB, 800x600 34 This was a new one - Mavis is not a "Lap" cat so she fount a place to be close to Sue when she is quilting.
enlarge 143KB, 800x600 35 Every now and then she will pat Sue on the head with her paw.
enlarge 193KB, 800x600 36 Tux is not amused that Mavis has taken residence on "His" chair, but Mavis has redefined the term "Top" cat.
