enlarge 125KB, 800x600 207 ut09-d1-183a Eric pondering the first river crossing. A lot of our group tried to find a crossing that would keep them relatively dry, but as this was the first of many, it did no good to try to keep dry. Fortunately, the river is not deep (unlike the Escalante).

enlarge 154KB, 800x600 209 ut09-d1-185a After the first crossing, the river goes around the bend and you have to cross it again. The canyon walls are quite impressive in this stretch of the canyon.

enlarge 111KB, 800x600 214 ut09-d1-191a Danny after crossing the river for the 2nd time. Note the tire tracks in the mud - Even though the canyon is under study as a wilderness area, ATV's use the canyon as a superhighway. We didn't see any on our trip. As a matter of fact, we only saw one other party - a couple.
enlarge 137KB, 800x600 215 ut09-d1-192k After rounding the bend at the 2nd river crossing, we took another break (about 1.5 hours from our first break).
enlarge 165KB, 799x599 216 ut09-d1-193r Austin, Kristina, and Fred - On our way again, crossing the bench beyond our break point. The canyon is fairly wide here and very scenic - the river meanders from side to side of the canyon.

enlarge 98KB, 800x600 229 ut09-d1-206b Looking down canyon (at same spot as self portrait). I don't know what happened but only a few pictures were taken between our 2nd break and Sheep Canyon. Maybe we were all getting tired of crossing the river time after time.

enlarge 107KB, 800x600 231 ut09-d1-208b After another break, the group is fairly close again. This is a bend or two above Sheep Canyon (our projected camp.)
enlarge 101KB, 800x600 232 ut09-d1-209k Ryan heading up Sheep Canyon. We almost missed the entrance to Sheep Canyon as it comes in at a very oblique angle. I might have missed it had I not gone over to talk to a couple who were putting on their packs just down canyon from the mouth. They had day hiked down to Deer Canyon and were going to hike back up the canyon a ways before camping. They were the only people we saw on the trip.
