We are relatively new comers on the Rat Terrier scene. I was first introduced to the breed in 1999, as a couple of co-workers had Rats, and continually "talked up" what great dogs they were. I had been "dogless" for almost 15 years, and wasn't sure I was able to make the necessary commitment to having a dog again. After much research and contemplating I decided to get a Rat puppy. Timing could not have been better. The breeder (Julia Kleutsch,
Poochville Rat Terriers) I contacted just happened to have one female available that had just been born by her Stud dog, Martin. She emailed me a newborn photo.... I fell immediately in love.... and have been hooked ever since.
As my "little girl" Macy matured.... I just knew that she was a good looking Rat Terrier. We made a trip to one of the UKC shows, to find Julia (sometimes that is the only way to catch up to her). Must say she was very pleasantly surprised at the way Macy was maturing. Julia said, "you've got to show her..... or let me show her". I figured if Macy was going to be shown, it would be more fun for me to be in the ring with her, than watching from the sidelines. Two months later Macy and I began our show career.
That was August 24 & 25, 2002. It has proved a great learning and rewarding experience for us both. Many wonderful people and friends have come in to our lives.
It seems Rat Terriers, are a bit like chocolates..... it's hard to have just one......Poochville's Morgan Miggs joined our family March 2003. In 2005 Macy had her first litter. I kept "Cali" and co-own two more of the pups from her litter.
Our goal will be to produce one maybe two litters each year of Rat Terriers with wonderful temperament, excellent health, and outstanding conformation.
We will strive to continuely learn and grow as breeders, as pet owners,
and have one heck of a good time as we do it.
