How We Microchip Our Puppies
We permanently identify all of our adult dogs, and puppies from our kennel, with AVID Friend Chips.
How Do AVID Microchips Work?
AVID Friend Chips each contain a 9-digit number. A special scanner is used to send a radio signal through the skin of the animal to read the number on the chip. The animal feels nothing as the scanner is passed over him. The microchip sends it’s number back to the scanner, and the unique number appears in the scanner's viewing window.
The microchip has no power supply, battery, or moving parts. It is designed with an operating life of over 25 years and is guaranteed for the life of the animal. Once injected, the microchip is anchored in place as a thin layer of connective tissue forms around it. The chip requires no care. It does not pass through or out of the body.
Microchips operate by sending and receiving radiowave signals. Therefore they function at a particular frequency. In the United States the accepted and used radiowave frequency is 125 kHz. The chips most commonly used in the United States companion animal industry are AVID® and HomeAgain™. Shelters know and trust these microchip companies to provide fast recovery services for lost pets. It is EXTREMELY important that new owners have their puppy's chip registered to them through PETtrac.
