MADDIE
Breed: Abyssinian
Color: Red/White Broken

Maddie was adopted from Cavy Spirit Guinea Pig Rescue and is the youngest of my group of four.  She is paired with Max and they make a very sweet couple!  Maddie is a snuggle pig who likes to push up under your chin and then sprawl out.  She has a very sweet nature and gets along well with all of the pigs in the Cafe.  Maddie sits up on her back legs to wheek for veggies.  She loves to climb up on the pigloo (igloo) or the fiddlesticks tunnel and when she is walking up the ramp, she will stop and let the dog lick her.

MAX
Breed: Abyssinian
Color: TSW Roan

Max ... Max a Million, Maxwell House, Maxi ... a pig of many names.  I spotted him in a local pet store and discovered that he was obviously a sick pig.  I left him there but I couldn't get him out of my mind so I went back and got him.  It turned out that poor Max had an URI, an eye infection, and was impacted.  After ongoing medical treatment and quarantine, Max was neutered. During his recovery from the surgery, he lived next door to Maddie and the two were inseparable through the cage bars.  It was definitely love at first sight!  Max has the biggest personality of the bunch ... he is such a character!  Max loves to explore and is fearless; he also is very sneaky.  While in his quarantine tub, he managed to scale his hayrack and get out to explore the room.  Max would like everyone to know that he is handsome, debonair, rakish, and a daredevil.  Can't you tell by his professional photo pose?

MILO
Breed: American
Color: White w/black stripe on back and red eye patch

Milo, a neutered boar, was adopted with his cage mate, Molly, from the Monterey SPCA in December, 2001.  We guess his age at the time we adopted him as about six-months-old.  Milo is such a mellow guy.  When all the other pigs were racing to escape being picked up, Milo would move cautiously after them, keeping his eyes on us the entire time.  His red eye patch is what drew me to him.  Milo is the only one of my bunch that will stand totally still and let me reach in and pet him.  He also "talks" to me.  Milo's favorite place to hang out in the Cafe is up on the second-level.  He loves to be able to keep an eye on all that is going on around him.  His favorite veggies include: kale, dandelion greens, parsley and spring mix.

MOLLY aka Molly Diamond
Breed: American
Color: DEW (dark-eyed white)

Molly and her mate Milo, were adopted from the Monterey County SPCA in December 2001.  They were two of hundreds of pigs that were being bred for research and were turned over to the shelter when the breeders were evicted.  We think that Molly was about three-months-old when we got her.  She was the smallest little pig in the pen.  All of the other females would trample her as they tried to get away from the people trying to pick them up.  Molly stood out in the crowd and immediately won our hearts.  She pretends that she is very skittish when she is out with Milo and will follow along right behind her big protector.  But when she is on her own, she is probably the bravest of the bunch.  Her full name is "Molly Diamond".  Molly is my most athletic pig.  She LOVES to run full-speed laps around the cage.

FUDGE
Breed: American Broken
Color: Chocolate/White

Sparky
Breed: Abyssinian
Color: Black

Fudge is my chocolate and white dreamboat boar.  He thinks he's quite the stud and likes to rumble strut and mark me when I hold him.  I don't think he understands that he stinks when he does this and I don't like it ... oh, well.  He's a good guy, just lets his hormones get in the way.  Typical teenager.

Sparky is a black Abby little boy.  He loves his roommate Fudge and will cry if Fudge isn't within his sights.  I usually have to take him out with Fudge so he doesn't cry too much!  He's more considerate and doesn't mark me when I hold him, so thank you Sparky!

FRED
Breed: Sheltie aka Silkie
Color: Red and White
Favorite Pastime: "Rescuing" Female Guinea Pigs

Fred's looks and mellow personality made him one of the "super models" of the theme cages.  He starred in four of the theme cages and patiently put up with the various photo-shoots as well as he tolerated the young male foster pigs who he roomed with on occasion.  At one point he realized that being a mentor to young males was not his thing and that he was really interested in "rescuing" the young females who came in to be fostered.  He got neutered and was placed in with three other females and eventually he and Pippi ended up in their own condo.  Fred is one of three theme-cage stars who passed over the Rainbow Bridge in the Fall of 2002.

GYPSY
Breed: Satin Abyssinian/Peruvian
Color: Tortoiseshell and White

PIPPI aka Pip-A-Roo
Breed: Texel
Color: Red and White

Gypsy is sweet and a bit shy.  She was acquired from a family who no longer had time for their guinea pigs. She was about six-months-old in the Spring of 2002 and had been living outside in a hutch with her sister and mother.  She is currently shares a cage with Max and Pippi.

Pippi's endearing looks and personality has made her one of the "super models" like her former mate, Fred.  The two of them made quite a couple with Fred's straight long locks and Pippi's curly locks.  Pippi loves to popcorn around her cage and sound the alarm for veggies.  Pippi was acquired in January of 2002 and is probably a little over a year old.  She lives with Max and Gypsy in their new home.

MOCHA (and Pippi in igloo)
Breed: Abyssinian Mix
Color: White and Red
Favorite Pastime: Scaling Mountains!

Mocha was acquired in 2002 from a family that ended up with a pregnant female and needed to place the babies.  Mocha is quite the athlete!  She loves to climb or run up things: ramps, hay containers, stools, and igloos - you name it!  She also loved to ring the chimes and would popcorn around the cage every time she rang them.  She has a history of a heart murmur and had respiratory problems at one point.  She was housed with three other guinea pigs but that didn't work out since they harassed her too much.  She was transported down to the LA area to join Techteddy and her guinea pig, Hannah.  Her new name is Pixie.

CHIBI
Breed: Texel
Color: Chocolate/REO/White

CHIP
Breed: Abyssinian
Color: Chocolate/REO

Chibi was a rescue from a pet store: the humane society had been called but they hadn't picked him up yet.  He is quite sweet and has soft fluffy hair that that gives him quite a distinctive look.  Because of his medical condition, he ended up with scurvy and there was a question whether or not he would live.  However, with treatment he survived and went on to be adopted into a wonderful home where he shares a cage with another sweet male.

Chip was a sweet, mellow foster male from Cavy Spirit.  He kept Chibi company for a while and then when he started bothering him too much he went back down to Cavy Spirit where he was adopted two hours after he arrived!

DAISY
Breed: American
Color: Beige/REO/White

Daisy was adopted from a local pet store in November of 2002.  She had arrived at the pet store pregnant and had three babies and then ended up with a ruptured eardrum and head tilt.  She was hospitalized and placed under on-going medical treatment.  Since they could not sell her, they placed her up for adoption.  She loves to popcorn and does laps around her cage!  She is still under medical treatment and will most likely have a permanent head tilt.  She resides in her own cage next to the other guinea pigs.  Daisy is probably less than one-year-old.  Update: Daisy now resides with her foster mom, LilyGrace, who adopted her.

MAX
Breed: Abyssinian Mix
Color: Tortoiseshell and White

Max came from a family that had a new baby and could no longer maintain their three guinea pigs.  Max's original name was Elvis, because of the lock of hair on his forehead.  He is very mellow and previously shared a cage at his former home with Snickers and another female.  He is about three-years-old and currently shares a cage with Gypsy and Pippi.  He's not telling but it's obvious that he's the "barber" who has been trimming Gypsy's hair. Max lives with Pippi and Gypsy in their new home.

SNICKERS
Breed: American
Color: Red and White

Snickers originally lived with Max and another female until their family needed to find another home for all of them.  Max arrived here first followed by Snickers.  She eventually was placed with the people who adopted BooBoo, her former cage mate.  Snickers is one of the three theme cages stars who passed over the Rainbow Bridge in the Fall of 2002.

CHIP
Breed: American/Abyssinian
Color: Red and White

Chip was dumped at a pet store along with his brother and mother. He and his brother, Tex, are quite a team: they do their laps around their cage together and enjoying sharing their meals, particularly veggies!  Chip weighs a little bit more than his slimmer brother and is the mellower of the two.  They are both less than a year old and were adopted by a wonderful family.

TEX
Breed: American/Abyssinian
Color: Red and White

Tex is quite a little character: he loves to run around his cage and practically lives on top of the fiddlestick tunnel!  He popcorns around his cage after making sure he has a human audience.  Both he and his brother are quite sweet and enjoy being held.  They both have a rather unique spray of hair over their lower back.

PRECIOUS & PUMPKIN
Breed: American
Color: Tortoiseshell and White

Precious and Pumpkin have the distinction of being the first stars of the theme cages.  They are sisters and loved to play follow-the leader around their cage.  They had a lot of fun in their Sunflower Garden cage: playing with the chimes, running through the PVC tubes, and checking out the hot air balloons.  Both Precious and Pumpkin were adopted out to loving homes.

LITTLERICKIE
aka Emerrick Fluff Piggiesworth
Breed: Abyssinian
Color: Chocolate
Favorite Sport: Competitive Popcorning

LittleRickie was born on June 4, 2002.  He is affectionately known as our "chewy nibbler."  LittleRickie believes in experiencing everything through his teeth and we have the clothes to prove it!  He is adorable and when he walks, he looks like a waddling ball of fur.  He is very warmhearted and loves having lap time and giving kisses.

WALTER P aka Walter Piggie of Guinea

Breed: American
Color: Beige/Red

WalterP was born on October 21, 2001.  He is charming, handsome, and charismatic.  He easily and quickly won the hearts of our entire family.  His hobbies include patrolling his habitat, modeling for photos, and short distance running.

CASSIA
Breed: Abyssinian
Color: Chestnut Agouti and Red
Best Attribute: Athletic

I adopted Cassia from Freshstart rescue Nov. 2002. Cassia is my wild girl: she jumps, climbs, and runs very fast.  I gave her the nickname "Monkey Girl" because of her athletic ability.  When I hold her though, she will sit still to be petted.  If I hold her too long she will start to look for a way to escape.  For some reason Cassia gets picked on a lot, mostly by Indrah, but hopefully things will calm down more as they all live together longer.  Cassia is a very fun pig to watch, and I really enjoy her.  Cassia is 1 year and 3-months-old.

EMMA
Breed: Abyssinian
Color: Tortoiseshell
Favorite Pastime: Lounging in cuddle cup

I adopted Emma in October 2002 from Freststart Rescue.  Emma's about 2 years old now.  She's a nice little pig who gets along well with all the others as long as they don't bother her too much.  Emma is mostly concerned about food and sleep.  She likes a nice soft bed or hammock to lie in, and if anyone is in her desired lounging spot they will get promptly booted out.  I don't see Emma playing too much with the others; she's like the adult supervisor in the cage.

INDRAH
Breed: Abyssinian
Color: Tortoiseshell and White
Favorite Food: Parsley!

I purchased Indrah from a pet shop September 2002.  I could not resist her beautiful red, black, and white colors.  I always wanted another Abyssinian in this color and there she was.  Indrah has an interesting personality: she's very playful and popcorns a lot but she is my most timid one.  Indrah is not the most welcoming when I introduce new pigs to the cage; she is very territorial and chases and picks on new comers for a while before calming down.  When I finally catch Indrah to hold her she settles down nicely and likes to be held, especially if I have a baby carrot for her.  Indrah loves Sierra and follows her sometimes but she loathes Cassia.  Maybe because Cassia and Sierra hit it off nicely and Indrah is jealous???

ISHTA
Breed: Abyssinian
Color: Golden agouti/White

Ishta was purchased from a breeder a few years ago.  She was an extremely dominant pig and could not live with my other guinea pigs.  I loved her calmness with me though; I could just reach in and pick her up: she never ran from me.  I loved how her coat shined and glistened; apparently she had satin in her.  Ishta is missed very much; she recently passed away from an un-known illness.  She is one of the three theme-cage stars who passed over the Rainbow Bridge in the Fall of 2002.

SHANNAH
Breed: Abyssinian
Color: Agouti/White/Red
Favorite Pastime: Being cute!

Shannah was adopted with Cassia and Sundrah November 2002.  I was told Shannah was two-months-old when I took her; I think she was younger.  She was very tiny and thin.  Shannah is very playful but timid.  Unfortunately, I have to keep her separate from the rest because of a skin problem right now.  I have moved a hammock into her cage and she goes absolutely wild bouncing around in it.  I think she's the cutest little pig I've ever seen!

SIERRA
Breed: Abyssinian
Color: Red
Favorite Food: Baby Carrots

Sierra is the queen of "Blue Birds of Paradise".  She is the most dominant pig but not mean at all.  They all respect her, even Emma who thinks about taking over from time to time.  I saw Sierra on Felines and Fidos rescue web page on Petfinders.  Actually, she was still in the previous owners home until I took her.  They called her Rusty and were told she was a male.  I renamed her and was very happy she was a girl.  Sierra is also a nice lap pig and has really gotten much more confident since being housed with other pigs; she definitely needs the company of other cavies.  Sierra is 1-1/2 years old.

SUNDRAH
Breed: Peruvian/Abyssinian
Color: White/Red/Brown

Sundrah is a real cutie that I adopted with Cassia and Shannah.  At first I wasn't going to take Sundrah because she was really wild when I picked her up; she scratched like a cat and squeaked.  I thought she was beautiful but too skittish for me.  I felt sorry for her: she would be alone if I just took her cage mate, so I decided to take her too.  I am not sorry!  Sundrah calmed down so much and is a joy.  Not only does she have an outgoing cheerful, fun-loving personality, she is a fantastic lap pig that just sprawls out on my lap and enjoys being petted.  Sundrah is about 4 months old now.  I adopted her November 2002 with Cassia and Shannah.

NALA
Breed: Peruvian
Color: Tortoiseshell and White
Favorite Sport: Cuddle Cup Jumping

She's the calmest of all my pigs ... she runs around popcorning sometimes but not often; she'd rather lie around and is very calm.  She doesn't mind being held, walked with, etc.  She's a sweetie pie!  Nala loves to jump in and out of her cuddle cup!  When she's not practicing this feat, she's resting up in her orange house in the Rainbow Apartments.  With Nala's looks and ease in posing for photos, she could have a modeling career in her future!  (However, she does not like being brushed and does not like being wrapped.)  Nala's a big winner! She has won Best Int. Variety, Best Int. Breed, BOV, and BOSB!  Way to go, Nala!  Her neighbors are Simba and Shaggy.

SHAGGY
Breed: Sheltie aka Silkie
Color: Dilute TSW aka Rainbow
Favorite Pastime: Being cute!

Shaggy ... he's so sweet!  He not only doesn't run from my hand nor give me a hard time getting him out of the cage but actually comes UP to my hand like he wants me to get him out!  He NEVER runs from me and actually will chase my hand around the cage till I get him out!  And he's so sweet ... snuggles right up to me during lap time.  Shaggy's got lots of energy and spunk. He gets the others riled up vocally which in turn gets the other pigs all popcorning.  He LOVES to run laps and popcorn around his cage!  He's an expert at doing laps and figure eights through his step-stool house while popcorning and being vocal.  It's so funny!  Shaggy has also won honors: Best of Breed.  His neighbors in the Rainbow Apartments are Nala and Simba.

SIMBA
Breed: Peruvian
Color: Tortoiseshell and White
Favorite Activity: Hanging out in his hammock

Simba is such a cutie!!!  He matches BabyNoo and Isabelle!  He's energetic but doesn't run from me when I go to get him out of the cage.  He doesn't tolerate long periods of lap time though, not even short ones really.  He's pretty much ready for laptime to be over soon as it starts but doesn't mind me walking with him which is just well ... odd.  He cracks me up because of his hair.  It's hard to explain but when he does laps and popcorns or sometimes does the bucking bronco thing: he kinda flips his hair.  I swear it's almost like a human expression with his body and hair.  He has no problems with me brushing his hair and is a perfect gentleman while I wrap him.  Simba has won Best Opposite Sex Variety (BOSV).  He is one of the three residents of the Rainbow Apartments.  His neighbors are Shaggy and Nala.

BABYNOO
Breed: Peruvian
Color: Red and White
Looks like she could be Nala's sister

BabyNoo is known for her FAST excursions around her Victorian Tea Party theme cage.  Zip, zip - two quick jumps and she's up on the upper-level!  When she's not zipping around her cage or practising her high jumps, she is curled up in her cuddle bed or a PVC tube.  She endures me grooming her with the best temperament and has shown in quite a few cavy shows doing quite well each time; she even won Best of Breed.  BabyNoo lives with Isabelle.

ISABELLE
Breed: Sheltie aka Silkie
Color: Black and White
Piggy with the most "Attitude"

Isabelle loves her Victorian Tea Party theme cage and one of her favorite places to lounge is in the hanging-shelf basket.  She's the oldest of the five and she's the most personable as in coming up to my hand to eat or pet her above her nose or scratch her chin.  Isabelle is known for her high jumps and both she and BabyNoo compete to see who can jump the highest.  Isabelle lives with BabyNoo, a younger female.
