1 1941 Command car in Holtville Carrot Festival Parade, 1983,
Petty Officer Dave Orwig at the wheel, in WWII Army dress.
2 Parked next to Larry Rose's "Whistling Death " Corsair at the El Centro NAS air show, 1983
3 Before pic of 1941 Power Wagon Panel truck. Our first PW. Probably a radio car, there was a 3" diameter hole in the dash for the voltmeter. No glove compartment door, so no data plates.
Four colors of primer, six coats of paint had to be stripped. Last two were house paint applied with rollers.
4 After pic, probably in the vicinity of Mission Trails park, San Diego. Before it was a park. Open to off roading at the time. 1977?
That would be my arm resting on the mirror frame, my brother Leon driving. This before he married the photographer.
We've added an electric winch, powered by a 24v aircraft starter motor. Wiring nightmare, since we left the 6v system intact, added a 12v alternator and two 12v batteries, three solenoids to hook them either in parallel or series.
5 After pic, taken in the snow on Kitchen Creek Road. Cepia toned to make it look like an old pic, 1977
Paint was 'Sanitation Tan', surplus from a supplier to the City of San Diego. Plus dark brown fenders, mirrors, etc.
