Hi, I'm Jilz.
I'm a purebred tri-color Rat Terrier.
My birthday is January 3, 2020, so I'm almost 4 years old.
Soon after I came to rescue I had ELEVEN healthy pups. As you can imagine, I put on some weight after birthing so many babies, so I look kinda chunky in some of my other pictures. But as of 12/18 I've lost a couple of pounds and am down to 26.8 lbs. When I'm down to my ideal weight I will be about 26 lbs.
I LOOOOOVE people and want them to love me, too.
"Hey, are you ready for a little snuggle time?"
Even on Day 1 in my new foster home I knew that my foster mom and dad were safe people, and I trusted them immediately.
Well, to be honest, anyone who has a hand that they're willing to use to pat me is A-OK in my book!
I especially love love love belly rubs.
I'd rather be getting pats than anything else in the world...
...except maybe hunting for squirrels or chipmunks...
... or treat handouts! I do LOVE treats.
I will sit on command for treats.
I have also learned to WAIT on command for treats. (It's really hard but I'm determined to get it right!)
Another skill I have is using the doggie door and being PERFECT in my housetraining when I have the freedom to go out when I want/need to.
When I don't have access to the doggie door, my humans need to be sure to establish a regular schedule because I don't know how to tell them when I need to go outside.
I LOVE to go for walks and try very hard to sit nicely to have my leash put on.
I do walk very nicely on leash, although of course I need to stop to smell interesting scents. And if a squirrel should be so brave as to show himself... well... that is why I cannot ever be allowed outside off leash.
My breeder papers describe me as a chocolate/apricot tri-color. That makes my foster mom say she wants to eat me up!
Download MPEG4 20 I wag my nub tail enthusiastically whenever I'm happy -- which is most of the time. Click for a video. Oh, incidentally, don't blame me for the weird haircut. The vet did that when I went in for heartworm treatment. I did not leave them a tip!)
I really like being near people, so when my foster mom was working on a project in the garage, that's where I wanted to be and I managed to find a nice place to snooze near her.
I enjoy being outside and can entertain myself quite nicely by exploring scents and sounds.
Download MPEG4 23 I've been getting better and better at the Wait command. Click for a video of what an expert I have become.
Everyone says I look a lot like my foster cousin Mixie. I like it when she comes to visit! When her cat brother comes along too, though, he has to stay upstairs because I'm definitely NOT a fan of "critters" in the house.
I really like people, even children. If someone startles me by unexpectedly appearing in My house, I may need to bark at them for a little bit, but I get over that quickly and then I'm a mooch for attention.
On high alert to see if that FedEx fella is coming to OUR house...
I love playing with my toys. I will enthusiastically destuff most stuffed ones, but not my favorite Brown Bear, whom I carry around lovingly. I also like chew toys and tug toys, but I'm not a big fan of squeaky toys.
My favorite game is when Foster Mom puts all my toys away into the toy box, then I get to pull them all back out again and leave them all over the house. She puts them back, and I take them back out. Repeat reapeat. If the doggie door is open, I also like to take them outside.
My foster mom says I have a very kissable nose. I'll sometimes kiss back, but overall I'm not a particularly big licker.
On a nice day I like to just lounge around in the sunshine. See me behind the little tree?
Download MPEG4 32 I was so happy to be finished with heartworm treatment and be able to run again! Click for a video of my romping just for the fun of it.
Naps are nice when there is nothing better to do.
But sometimes I do get bored if there is no one around to play with. And when I'm bored, I just might go looking around the house for something fun that has been left within reach. And I might nibble that fun thing a bit because, well, why not?
If foster mom or dad takes away whatever I wasn't supposed to have been playing with, I feel guilty because I certainly did not WANT to upset them. Once they've told me to leave something alone, I generally do (not counting the cat), but that doesn't mean I won't be curious about the next new thing I find lying around.
Isn't it dinner time yet?
I would love to be part of an active family, and be your fun, loving, loyal companion forever and ever.
