It must have been an extraordinary glacier (as was the Roosevelt & Coleman glaciers on the north side, as seen in the Heliotrope Ridge hike). In fact the Black Butes are what is left from the 'original' volcano which was gigantic.. Mt Baker is a secondary and much younger volcano
