1 Purely through chance, these four rifles show in serial number and barrel-date order, the production changes instituted between 12-41 and 3-42.
| 2 44 years of shipping scars evident in woodwork. Note on some rifles, lighter area in middle of stock, under more old dings, where wood was lightly sanded years ago to clean up previous shipping wounds.
| 3 At least 3 different stencils used for "30" and "300". Top rifle done twice and still was smudged. Note large "Hatcher Hole" for gas reflief.
| 4 Lightening grooves on rear sight base soon eliminated. Smaller gas relief hole on right side still persists to at least serial number 3051776.
|
5 3033032 - Nice clear Ordnance crossed cannon escutcheon with the boxed inspection stamp for Col. Roy L. Bowlin's tenure.
| 6 3047064 - Even the clearest, (see previous photo), of these stock cartouches aren't as crisp and sharp as the counterfeiters' stamps, (but let's not tell them that!)
| 7 3016776 - More marring from this rifle's crate mate. This looks like a row of sling swivel bumps.
| 8 3051776 - Higher placed inspection stamps, below which is stamped, "PP". (As yet undetermined British markings also present on left side of 3033032's butt.)
|
9 Fore end markings. Little geometric Remington sub-inspection stamps below mysterious British letters and numbers.
| 10 3016776 - British stamps: "43" cancelled, "W/4" may be Weedon, and "K"
| 11 3033032 - British stamp: "43"
| 12 3047064 - British stamp: Just "43" again.
|
13 3051776 - British stamps: "40", "W/7", "D", and "J". Note on previous photos the number of different Remington sub-inspection stamps.
| 14 Circled "P" stock firing proof, below which is a British stamped, "C", "D", "P" or "C". Note blued rear trigger guard screw.
| 15 3047064 - Typical damage from adjacent rifle's front band screw to the middle of right side of butt. Note Remington stamped "U".
| 16 3016776 - Another stock with the "U" stamp.
|
17 3016776 - All rifles have a tiny, upside-down, "L" on tip of stock, (photo middle left). Only this one has this probably British stamp of a "G" and upside-down "L".
| 18 Rifles were packed so closely together in the crates that the wood shaving packing material sometimes became imbedded in the painted bands.
| 19 Progression of barrel dates. Note punch mark in bomb on 1-42, (3033032), and 3-42, (3051776).
| 20 3016776 - Earliest barrel date of this group. That is not a punch mark on the bomb, just a small scratch.
|
 21 3033032 - With punch mark.
| 22 3047064 - No punch mark.
| 23 3051776 - With punch mark. Note change in finish compared to the three earlier rifles.
| 24 3016776 - Underside of barrel and bayonet boss. That isn't an "R" on the barrel.
