I can't remember the year, but the Albacore was in Rockland Maine for the lobster festival. It was a foggy day,and a friend and myself were in the Sea Scouts. We were sailing in Rockland harbor, heading for Owls Head, when I spotted what appeared to be 2 spar bouys linked together. Being kids we desided to go between them. We ran aground on the stern of the Albacore. I'll leave out what was said to us from the C.O. but we were not long leaving the area. - russ, Sat, 10 Sep 2011 10:40AM
My brother Layton F. "Rick" "Seaweed" Lewis was killed in March, 2007, when his single engine plane crashed in the mountains of northern New Mexico. He flew this route often, from Dallas to Durango, Colorado, to check on his property there. I miss him terribly, but we will meet again in Heaven. Thanks to Keith Rost, who called me to tell me Rick was in this photo gallery. - Leah Lewis Butters, Wed, 31 Dec 2008 2:27PM
My dad went out on a test run only. He was never stationed on the Albacore. In 1954, he had his picture made inside of the submarine. We still have it. Navy daughter, Katrina Smith Prince - Rudoph Smith, Wed, 20 Feb 2008 4:21PM
