CRUZIN' KENNEL
1. CRUZIN'  KENNEL

Please enjoy learning about Cruzin Kennel owner Lynn Pinkey and
what her passions are about her Rat Terriers and her life.
Lynn has raised the bar on Rat Terriers and the breed owes a
lot to her keen eye and dedication to breeding exceptional Rat Terriers.

1 - How did you arrive at your kennel name?

Well, with Mr.Cruz at the foundation of my line it was only proper
and fitting to name my kennel after the boy. It just works! LOL!

2 - What made you get into rat terriers?

I had been in the Rottweiler breed (not as a breeder) for quite some time and intensely into obedience training as well is tracking training with a retired police officer. I was the person that the canine school
sent the tough cases to for rehabilitation. (aggressive behaviors)
I also had a group of people from the obedience school that I dog sat for. I had a major surgery that changed my health and I was no longer able to be the top dog with the large breeds. This facilitated my search for a small breed that still behaved like a large dog and was more than able/willing to do all of the things we did as a family. Rat Terriers have fit that mold perfectly and they are such a blessing in my life.
I am thrilled with this breed and am so grateful to have discovered them.

3 - Do you show? Why? Or Why not?

Yes I do show on occasion.
I like to have titles on my dogs when possible,
but I place a much greater emphasis on OFA testing and getting them to the absolute best male available. This is where my $$ is prioritized to first. When there is enough left over to show with I enjoy seeing my friends immensely.

4 - What do you like about the breed? What don't you like about the breed?

I love that they can be a large dog in a small package and that they are so human oriented. They so readily make us the center focus of the pack and that makes them a wonderful dog to handle, unlike the Rottweiler that has to test the hierarchy standing twice yearly. These wonderful little dogs are so fun loving and I enjoy that fact that they play like puppies well into adulthood. They are beautiful to my eye and a treasure to own. I don't love that generally they need to be raised with children in order to be comfortable with them.

5 - What is your favorite color/pattern rat terrier?

Well my favorite color pattern was the tuxedo marked dogs like my Shevaunie (gorgeous girlie), but I have grown to really appreciate a richly marked black tri Rat Terrier. To me that color pattern screams classic Rat Terrier. I LOVE my red and white dogs too, but I would have to say the black tri is my favorite color pattern these days.

6 - What is your favorite ear set?

In the beginning I loved the button ear set because it is such a soft look,
but now I much prefer the erect ear set when well shaped and placed correctly on the head.

7 - Do you prefer males? Females? Why?

I love my females tremendously, but my male, Cruz, is my heart dog. There is a devotion with a male dog that the females don't possess as strongly.

8 - Do you train your rat terriers? If so, would you share your favorite
methods and what is your biggest pet peeve on training?

I use classic "old school" obedience methods. These methods have served my well for a long time and rehabilitated many dogs that were destined for euthanasia. My Rat Terriers are a much easier breed that the large breeds I came away from and I find I do not have to employ many corrections with is marvelous. My biggest pet peeve is the treat training mentality that prevails today. This method is much akin to the bribing parent mentality that dominates society. Looking at the track record of it's successes and failures, I have no faith in it. But that is only my opinion. LOL!

9 - Who is your most memorable rattie and why?

Cruz, Cruz, Cruz ....He is a remarkable dog in every aspect. He has given me better than himself for my next generation of dogs, consistently (with different bitches). He is the kindest soul and loves every person he meets. He is a benevolent leader in my pack. He is a gentleman and loves me like there is no tomorrow. Plus...he is one handsome little dog!

10 - Do you rescue?

I have not rescued Rat Terriers, but have many other breeds. I did this on a private level, not through a rescue organization. I have rescued more than one dog from the pound and put good training and love into the dog and placed them with a loving family. Every dog I have ever trained or done this with has been a forever beloved companion to the family I placed them with.

11 - Tell us something interesting about you and your family (not
necessarily has to do with ratties)

We love to camp...LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. We used to own horses and we raised our kids on camping and riding horses in the mountains. We no longer own horses, which I never though I could do, but I put my time into my dogs instead.

12 - Are you a mom? Grandma? How many?  Married? Single? Any kid/grandkid brags?  Tell us a little about yourself and your family that you want us to know.

I am a mom to three wonderful kids and I have been married for 23 years to my high school sweetheart. We started married life at a young age and beat all statistics and love one another deeply. We attribute this to our commitment to Christ and His powerful ability to strengthen us, convict us, grow us and change us. Two of my children are living on their own and we have one teenager left at home. Strange how fast the time goes...

13 - Are you a career person? A homemaker? Retired?

I have worked off and on during my married life but John and I both like it best when I am at home taking care of the myriad of responsibilities there and keeping a watchful eye on our kids. It is one rough world we live in today and it has been the greatest investment we ever made.

14 - Other animals

We have 8 laying hens...

15 - Other hobbies?

I love camping but I feel a draw to begin to utilize my love for writing.
This will be fun to explore.

16 - If you  had to give us one motto to live by what would it be?

Be the truest person you can be....be real, be honest, let others feel safe
with you because you are what they see and they can trust that. Be
kind...the world is a hurtful place and we all need kindness to counteract
the pain...

17 - Your birthday (don't have to give year.hahahaha)
